Paid Search Marketing

Paid Search (aka Sponsored Search) refers to any form of advertising or marketing that involves payment that is directly or primarily associated with the results of an online search such as Pay-Per-Click (PPC) and Cost-Per-Thousand Impressions (CPM).

Paid Search is contrasted with Natural Search (aka Organic Search) which is influenced primarily by search relevance determined by software algorithms.

Why Use Paid Search?

Per-Per-Click (PPC) advertising programs may be an important component of a comprehensive search engine marketing strategy, and despite their direct cost, they can sometimes provide some very distinct advantages to marketers over the standard search engine optimisation. For example, buying keywords linked to a Google AdWords or Overture listings offers an immediate way for you to drive qualified traffic to your website and an extremely flexible way to support special-purpose advertising campaigns. In addition, with sophisticated tracking it is relatively easy to measure your ROI immediately with this form of advertising.

Paid advertising programs can be used to cover gaps in rankings when a site does not gain sufficient prominence on a particular keyword phrase because of limitations in content quality, quantity, site technological or low existing link popularity due to age of website or other factors. PPC programs can also be handy for seasonal initiatives, new product launches or they can support offline advertising campaigns and opportunities.
